Summer schedule

Why the crew shows up before sunrise

Stucco soaks up the sun. By afternoon a south or west wall can be too hot to take a good coat. So from May to September we work the cool hours and spend the afternoons on prep.

We follow your HOA's and the city's quiet hours. If the rules say later, we start later and tell you what that does to the schedule.

Through the year

The two seasons, month by month

Phoenix has two painting seasons. These are typical months; your estimate gives the dates for your job.

  • Full-day crews

Mild weather. We start at 7:00 a.m. and work the whole day.

    Oct to Apr

  • Early-start crews

On the wall at 5:00 a.m., off it by late morning, before the stucco heats up.

    May to Sep

  • Monsoon weeks

Coat days move with the forecast. Washing and repairs go on.

    Jul to Sep

  • HOA packets

Send your approval request a month ahead of the start you want.

    Aug to Nov

Before the crew arrives

What we ask of you

Four small things make an early start go smoothly.

  • Leave the gate open

We are on site before you are up. Leave the side gate unlocked, or tell us where the code is.

  • Turn off the sprinklers

Water on a wet wall stops the work. Switch the timer off the night before.

  • Move the cars

Driveway and street in front clear, patio furniture pulled away from the wall.

  • Tell us about pets

A dog in the yard at 5 a.m. is easier to plan for if we know.

A July morning

The crew follows the shade

This is the order of a summer coat day. In winter the same steps run at a normal pace.

  1. Step 1: 5:00 a.m. Wash and mask the shaded wall

West and north walls are still in shade. We start there, with the gate open and your sprinklers off.

  2. Step 2: 7:00 a.m. Coat the next wall as the sun moves

We move around the house with the shade, one wall at a time, so no wall is coated in direct sun.

  3. Step 3: 10:00 a.m. Stop when the wall is too warm

We feel the wall. When it is too warm for a good coat, we stop, clean up and cover what is wet.

  4. Step 4: Late morning: a text from the crew lead

Photos of what was done and what is next. Afternoons are for the next day's prep, not the wall.

Questions about the summer schedule

Why do you start at 5 a.m. in summer?

Stucco gets hot in the sun, and a coating applied to a hot wall can dry too fast. We start while the walls are cool, follow the shade around the house and stop when the wall is too warm for a good coat. Afternoons go to prep for the next day.

What happens in monsoon season?

We watch the forecast. Rain, strong wind or a dust storm in the forecast moves the day we apply a coat, not the days we wash and repair. We tell you the night before if a day moves.

How do you protect windows, plants and cars?

We mask windows, doors and light fixtures and cover plants, patio furniture and vehicles. Please move cars out of the driveway the night before and turn off sprinklers.

How long does a stucco job take?

Most one-story homes take three to five working days, if repairs and weather allow. Your written estimate gives a range of days, and we text you each evening where the crew got to.
